Introduction to Business Sustainability

Introduction to Business Sustainability provides an overview of the basic concept and definition of Corporate Sustainability. Various models and theories about business sustainability will be introduced and explained including: The Natural Step, Natural Capitalism, The ‘Triple Bottom Line’, Product Life-Cycle and Biomimicry. National and local company stories will be shared to cite specific examples of how companies can begin sustainable programs and initiatives within their own  organization. The presentation includes basic information and resources on how companies can ‘get started’.

Developing a Sustainability Plan

This training will teach the fundamentals of developing a sustainability plan. Students will learn various approaches to crafting a purpose and vision statement for sustainability and determining goals and initiatives. Students will also gain insight on determining initiatives based on various factors and criteria to ensure the success of a sustainability plan. In order to build the business case for sustainability, students will learn which aspects to track and monitor and how to develop a basic return on investment (ROI) worksheets. Fundamental change management and behavior modification strategies and theory will also be presented.

Becoming a Paperless Office

In this training, participants will learn how to minimize paper. Paper is the number one material thrown away and also one of the biggest polluting industries. The typical U.S. office worker uses about 10,000 sheets of copy paper each year. Participants will learn how to reduce this amount of paper by becoming more organized electronically. By utilizing the computer more effectively company staff gains more efficiency as well as printing less. Ideas will also be introduced on how to minimize copies and duplication. Scanning techniques and strategies will also be reviewed.

Greening Your Business One Step at a Time

With  the growing  trend toward   eco-consciousness and environmental awareness in business, this training provides information on how to start sustainability initiatives within a small business--step by step. A wide variety of issues and topics will be discussed including:; waste management, reduction of paper, supplier and purchasing guidelines, green communications and energy and water conservation.  Participants will get a general understanding of how to develop their own sustainability plans within their company operations.

Eco-Style Your Life

 This presentation will provide the incentive for individuals to become more sustainable in their own personal life. Various eco-steps and ideas will be explained along with their level of difficulty and cost. Areas introduced will include; energy savings, water consumption, waste reduction, transportation use, food choices and consumer purchases.  Participants will leave this seminar/presentation with  their own ‘personal green plan’ on actions they can make immediately toward an eco-friendly lifestyle.

Getting to Zero-Waste

Getting to zero-waste is an aggressive goal for most individuals, companies and communities. The recent statistics on our US landfills show that over 50% of our current waste is recyclable materials. Another 25% is food waste and tree trimmings.  Moving towards zero-waste may not be as difficult as it sounds. In this presentation we will educate participants on the facts of waste and recycling and provide alternative ways to reduce waste. We will provide specific resources of what materials can be recycled or composted and cite regional resources that provide recycling services.

Conscious Consumerism

The purchasing power  of consumers is what guides new products and manufacturing operations. In this session participants will learn how their purchasing choices impact the environment and how they can become a ‘conscious consumer’. The 10 key questions for consumers to ask themselves before they purchase a product will be presented along with  explanation of ‘green’ product labels and certifications. Participants will learn the link between consumption patterns and making a postivie impact on the environment.
